What's the difference between creator and auto captions?
Creator captions are typed or reviewed by the person who uploaded the video, so they're usually more accurate. Auto captions are generated by speech recognition — handy when nothing else exists, but expect the occasional mistake.
What if a video has no subtitles at all?
If the uploader didn't add captions and auto-captions aren't available, there's simply nothing to download. Most popular videos have at least auto-generated captions, though.
Which languages can I get?
The original caption language, plus auto-translations into 100+ others. The exact list depends on what's available for that particular video.
SRT or VTT — which should I pick?
Choose .srt if you're loading captions into a video editor or a desktop player like VLC. Choose .vtt if you're adding them to a website's HTML5 video. The wording is identical; only the file format differs.
