Privacy Policy
Plain language. Exactly what we collect, how long we keep it, and what rights you have over it.
Last updated: 21 July 2026
The short version
You don't need an account, and we never ask for your name, email, or any personal details to use VideoGrab. We don't sell your data, we keep request logs only for as long as they are needed to run the service and prevent abuse, and the files you download are deleted from our server as soon as they reach you. The site is supported by advertising — see the Advertising section below for what that involves.
What we handle
The link you paste. To fetch a video, thumbnail, subtitles, tags or clip, we send the link you provide to the platform that hosts it. That link is used to complete your request and may appear in our basic server logs.
Basic usage analytics. Like most websites, our server keeps simple logs to keep the service running and to understand overall usage. These can include your IP address, an approximate country derived from that IP, the type of request, and the time it happened. We use this to monitor load, prevent abuse, and improve the tools — not to identify you personally.
What we don't do
- No accounts, passwords, or personal profiles.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- No permanent storage of the media you download.
Data we collect, precisely
| Data | Why | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| IP address | Rate limiting, abuse prevention, approximate country | Limited period |
| User-agent string | Compatibility and abuse detection | Limited period |
| Submitted URL | To fetch what you asked for; kept in request logs | Limited period |
| Referring page | Understanding where visitors arrive from | Limited period |
| Request time, tool used, outcome | Aggregate usage statistics | Limited period |
| Downloaded file | Delivery to your browser | Deleted immediately after delivery |
Retention. Log records are kept only for as long as they are needed to operate the service and prevent abuse, and are deleted once they are no longer required. Aggregate counts that contain no identifying information (for example, "how many downloads happened on a given day") may be kept longer.
Your downloads
Video, audio, thumbnail, subtitle and clip files are generated on demand and kept only briefly on our server so your browser can download them. They're automatically deleted immediately afterwards — we don't keep a copy.
Cookies & local storage
VideoGrab sets the following, and nothing else:
vg_sid— a signed, HttpOnly session cookie. It identifies your browser for abuse prevention and to remember that you have completed a human-verification challenge. It contains no personal information. Expires after 30 days.vg-theme— stored in your browser's local storage to remember your light or dark theme preference. Never sent to our server.vg-session— a random identifier in local storage used to count a visit as a single session. Not linked to any personal data.
Advertising
VideoGrab is free to use and is supported by advertising. Advertising partners may set their own cookies or use similar technologies to serve and measure ads, and may collect data such as your IP address, device information and the pages you view. This processing is governed by the partner's own privacy policy, not ours.
You can control personalised advertising through Google Ad Settings, and opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info.
Third parties we use
- Hosting — the site runs on a third-party virtual private server. All processing happens on that server.
- Google Fonts — page fonts are loaded from Google's servers, which receives your IP address as part of that request.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — a human-verification challenge shown only if you make an unusually high number of requests. Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser signals to assess whether the request is automated.
- IP geolocation — an external lookup service is used to derive an approximate country from an IP address for aggregate statistics.
- Source platforms — when you paste a link, the request reaches the site hosting that content. How that platform handles it is governed by its own privacy policy.
We do not use a third-party analytics product. Usage statistics are calculated on our own server.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, EEA or UK (GDPR). You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to receive it in a portable format. Our lawful basis for the limited processing described above is legitimate interest — operating the service securely and preventing abuse.
If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, to request deletion, to request correction, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
How to make a request. Email support@videograb.app with the subject Data Request. Because we hold no account information, we may ask for the approximate date and IP address of your visit in order to locate any relevant records. We respond within 30 days.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the administrative interface is password protected. No system is perfectly secure, but we do not store the categories of data that would be most sensitive if exposed — there are no passwords, payment details, or contact details to lose.
International transfers
The service runs on a server hosted in a single location. If you access VideoGrab from another country, your request is processed at that location. The third parties listed above may process data in other countries under their own safeguards.
Children
VideoGrab isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
